Water shedding roof system

Water-Shedding

A water-shedding roof, also known as a hydrokinetic roof, is simply a roof that allows for water to run-off. A water-shedding roof system is usually accompanied with gutters and other similar features designed to direct the waterflow off the roof, and away from the house. Water-shedding roof systems differ from waterproofing roof systems as they are installed on steep-sloped roofs 3:12 pitch or greater, and use gravity to shed water from the roof surface. If water were to somehow become blocked from running off the roof in the form of an ice-damn or any other form of blockage, a water-shedding roof system would leak if the water was aloud to sit long enough. Water-Shedding roof systems account for blockage usually in the form of ice-and-water barrier installed along the eaves.

Note: Some roofing systems can be a combination of both water-shedding or water-proofing roof systems.
