What is an open valley?
An open roof valley is a roof valley that is protected by a 2′ – 3′ wide valley metal liner and the shingles are cut back about 3 inches from the valley center. Open valleys have traditionally been used for wood shingles, slate, and tile, but also work well with asphalt shingles. Open roof valleys are considered by many to be more aesthetically appealing, easier to clean, and allow for better valley drainage.
